Embossing is the one decoration on your bottle that cannot scuff off, wash off or peel. It is also the one you cannot change after tooling, so the drawing stage is where it succeeds or fails.
How Your Logo Gets Into the Steel
The pattern is engraved into your blow mould as a mirror image, usually on a CNC machine working from vector artwork. Glass then takes the shape during the final blow, pressing into every cut the mould offers.
That order explains the two rules that govern everything else. Glass has to flow into the detail while it is still soft, and the mould has to let go of the bottle afterwards. Every constraint on the next drawing comes from one of those.
The 3 Numbers That Decide Whether Glass Fills

Why Your Logo Needs Redrawing for Glass
Artwork made for print assumes ink can be any thickness. Glass cannot: a hairline serif and a heavy stem in the same word will not fill at the same rate, and the thin part arrives soft or broken.
Redrawing solves it. Even the stroke weights, open the counters inside letters like a or e, and lift the smallest type size until every stroke has real width. Where on the Bottle Embossing Works
Flat panels are the easiest surface and the hardest to light. Your mark sits square to the viewer, but without a curve to catch a highlight it can vanish in a shelf photograph.
Shoulders and heels read better because the glass curves through the light, which is why so many heritage bottles carry their name there. Base embossing is the safest place for a code or a capacity mark, and it never competes with your label.
Embossed, Debossed, or Both
Raised lettering is the default and photographs well. Recessed detail catches shadow instead of light and suits a dense panel of text, since it keeps the surface flat for a label.
Combining them gives you the strongest effect: a recessed panel with raised lettering inside it frames your mark and protects it from scuffing during transport. That combination costs nothing extra once the mould is cut, so ask for it on a 750 ml (25 oz) spirits bottle where shelf presence pays.
